Google Play Books intros new ‘Discover’ feature to the app and experience
It takes a look at what you’re reading and what you’ve read, and suggests books for you to read.
The new update is already available in the United States on Play Books for Android and will soon be launched in 75 countries for Android, iOS and the web, said Google in a blog post. Discover identifies news, reviews, lists, and videos about books from trusted sources around the web, and brings them to readers in an easy to browse way.
In addition, as users read these articles or watch videos, the app will pull out the books that are mentioned, so users can read free samples or buy the books within the app. This could be the next hit book that is now being made into a movie, or a review that praises a book from a popular author.
Discover launches today (September 19) as part of the Google Play Books Android app, and will be coming to iOS in the near future. It’s where you can read other articles, author interviews, book selections, and essays.
Discover also features what is called “Weekly Highlights”, which is the SparkNotes version of all these news, reviews and videos in the literary world for those short on time.
Google Play Books features an organized home page that includes customized recommendations, genres, top charts, new arrivals and the ability to search for exactly what the reader is shopping for.
The new feature is called Discover, and it uses Google’s super-powerful algorithm to locate different books that you might be interested in that you would have otherwise never found. Google Play Books is introducing Discover, a new way to find books by browsing the latest reviews, news, lists, videos and more.
