Google Play Games drops Google+ for Gamer ID profiles
This enables anyone to claim a unique handle that doesn’t have to link to an existing account, which means you can pick a random name like “Unic0rnd00d” instead of displaying the real name you have tied to your Gmail or Google+ (as it’s done with other products).
In an announcement made on Thursday, Google said that it has eliminated the Google+ log in requirement for Google Play Games.
As the new system comes online, players logging into Android games integrated with Google Play Games will be asked to create their “Gamer ID” and given the option to associate it with their name and email address.
Google has given its Android social gaming platform, Google Play Games, an overhaul.
As detailed on the Official Android Blog, gamers who want an account to record their feats will soon be offered “Gamer IDs”. Instead of having to sign in for every game separately, all you have to do now is sign in once for your account.
The announcement implies that the Google Play Games service is set to break up from the Google+ social network; with the games integrated with the Google gaming hub to be moved over to new Gamer IDs in the coming weeks. You won’t have to wait long; Google says this feature is rolling out over the coming days. Will they entice you to play more games? Sign in once and you won’t be prompted to sign in for most other games you have or download in the future.
