Google Play Store now available on certain Chromebooks
Once you’ve enabled it, you should start seeing the Google Play icon in the taskbar of your Chromebook. Google noted that it would make its app store available on more Chrome OS-based machines later in the year.
In other words, the Google Play Store is still disabled by default on Chromebook, but once you’ve updated your device to version 53.0.2785.129, you will be able to enable the Google Play Store from your Chrome settings.
In related news, you can now queue your downloads in the Google Play Store through the new feature introduced in Android, said UberGizmo. It’ll arrive in beta over the next several days in Chrome OS v53.0.2785.129 for the Acer Chromebook R11 and the Asus Chromebook Flip.
Google, though, has released the update on the stable channel but it still remains to be a gradual rollout.
Search for Google Play Store, tap on it and finally select “Enable”.
Venture Beat cited that Chromebook Pixel 2015 would also soon to receive the update. The report mentioned that a beta release of the Google Play Store is available right now for the users on the Asus Flip and the Acer R11, and will be coming soon to Pixel 2015. This new approach would come to only some Chromebook models which had to be running the dev and beta channel builds. Upon updating their devices, users will be presented with terms and services of using Play store. Furthermore, it still carries the Beta tag irrespective of whether it is in the stable channel or not.
Now, Google Play is rolling out to the stable channel.
If, for some reason, you can’t find the Google Play Store, then you should know that since the application comes pre-installed, it doesn’t have an option to be deleted, so it’s probably hidden somewhere.
