Google’s Inbox by Gmail Gets Github, Trello, Drive Integrations
Inbox by Gmail is Google’s relatively newer email application that wants to simplify email. With version 1.29, Google has now integrated Trello, GitHub and Google Alerts into Inbox.
With the Trello integration, Inbox will now automatically group and update your Trello notifications so you simply get a summary of what’s coming up for the day rather than multiple disparate emails. Now, it’s getting a little more powerful.
Google has also put out the bat signal for other companies that frequently send emails, urging these companies to get in touch to collaborate on how they can work together with Inbox to create a better email system.
Similar is the case with software collaboration platform Github, that will keep you up to date with all changes made to your code on the platform.
The last bit of info Inbox can now pull are the various Google alerts you may have set up. If you don’t know, you can ask Google to notify you about a specific topic in the news, such as NASA in the GIF below.
In addition, Inbox will now also show you the same glanceable view it uses for newsletter or alerts from Google News, too.
Beyond Trello and GitHub integrations, the Gmail team has added a couple features many users have requested for quite some time.
Inbox might be one of Google’s most controversial products – some love the time-saving features and some hate them (such as our Glorious Leader, Artem).
Lastly, also arriving with today’s Inbox update is the ability drag-and-drop contacts within email fields on the web and a faster way to delete emails alongside the current “mark as done” function. And in a small but useful change, users can now delete emails from the inbox, whereas previously they had to select a message first in order to trigger the trash icon.
