Google’s Inbox now displays search results with cards
If you’ve used Google lately, you’ve noticed those little information-packed card that show up at the top of some search results, giving you the exact answer to the question you had without having to open any links.
It pops that info up in a card that looks quite similar to the information Inbox intelligently surfaces from your emails.
Google today announced improved search functionality for Inbox, its other email app.
Inbox introduced a number of new features for mobile users when it first arrived in 2014, including the ability to group e-mailed documents, such as bank statements or receipts, together by type for easy organization. And if you’re an Android user, those cards fill your Google Now interface, providing hopefully relevant info at a glance. The cards work with everything from frequent flyer numbers to packages you’re tracking.
While Inbox always featured a pretty good search feature that would organize results by relevance, Google has now made its search tool in the app significantly smarter. It does the same for flights, events, phone and membership numbers, addresses and more.
Below those quick results, Inbox will show a section of “top results”, with and the full chronological search results will be displayed below that. The update appears to be rolling out gradually, with Google’s blog post saying the feature will start to go live today.
