Google’s latest Chrome experiment puts a lightsaber in your phone
Irish said the game was developed by Google in collaboration with Lucasfilm, Industrial Light & Magic and their parent company Disney, which has its marketing machine running at light speed to promote Thursday’s theatrical release of the latest “Star Wars” epic. Now, Google has created a game specifically for those who always wanted to use a lightsaber. You swing your phone around to control the lightsaber on your desktop or laptop with the goal of fighting storm troopers and other villains. It’s surprisingly responsive, and actually does a far better job of making you feel like a Jedi than Kinect Star Wars. Wave your phone across the screen to counter attacks and hit the Stromtroopers with your lightsaber while moving through the Star Destroyer.
The rich 3D graphics were built with WebGL, enabling lovely, high fidelity 3D renders within the browser.
The game is called Lightsaber Escape and it is part of the Chrome Experiments website.
As you may have guessed, this experiment is “inspired by” the Star Wars: The Force Awakens movie debuting on December 18. For gameplay, your phone acts as a lightsaber controller, with syncing taking place between the Chrome app on your phone, and the Chrome browser on your desktop computer.
