Google Tez is a mobile payments app made for India
Google Tez, a UPI based mobile payments app has finally been launched in India after several leaks and confirmations. One has to simply link account to Tez over UPI to instantly transfer money from bank to bank. It is based on UPI – a payments protocol built by government-backed National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI).
For money transfers, there is a limit of $1,561 (INR1 Lakh) in one day across all UPI apps, and 20 transfers in one day. This will allow you to send money using Account number, UPI ID, phone number, or QR code. This mobile payment service is available in English and different dialects-Bengali, Kannada, Gujarati, Telugu, Tamil, and Marathi.
Google has also announced “Tez for Business”, an app which will enable merchants to engage directly with customers. Even the app can be secured with a Google PIN or a screen lock. Beyond that, your bank may charge fees or may impose additional requirements. The app is also available on iOS with support for iPhone 4S and newer, thus covering a very good portion of the smartphone market. Google is also working with payment aggregators such as BillDesk and PayU to bring more businesses onto the Tez platform. The application also allows a “Cash Mode” option which lets the user send or receive payments to anyone nearby without sharing details. The app is downloadable for both Android and iOS. So for example, the next time you’re eating at Dominos or traveling through RedBus, you can make digital payment using Tez. Unified Payments Interface, which enables the service compatible with all the major banks. You need to use Tez for making payments and if you win, the bounty goes straight to your account. “Google Digital Payment Aap “TEJ” is the First product for India, first to promote growth, create jobs and make lives better”, Ministry of Finance said in a tweet.
Mobile payment options have been on a rise and with wallet options like PayTM that got a lot more recognition after the Indian govt. chose to demonetize two currency notes previous year, the adoption rate for digital payments through smartphones has been high. The user can also do all this by sending a message from the registered number through “Tez” interface.
