Google trials food photo posts on Maps app
If are you thinking I am going to give you a treat, then Sorry!
Google’s Street View allows you to see panoramic views of streets from your mobile device, allowing you to “take a walk” along a street so that you can check out a neighborhood.
So while it’s not a full-fledged app, it seems like Google has found a smart and useful way to keep food photography in the fold after all.
While the new Google Maps feature in testing doesn’t explicitly mention food photography, it does make reference to taking photos of “restaurants, bars, meals and drinks” and of posting images of your “epic meal”. Those who are Local Guides of level 3 and above will be able to get this feature, which the search giant is searching. The blurb says that it will take “just two taps.”
The company trialed a food photography service called Tablescape earlier this year, but closed the app down in June, saying it would invest resources into other projects.
Apart from helping you get back to eating, it should also speed up your restaurant reviews – a big help to Google, which undoubtedly wants the foodie pics that usually go straight to Instagram and Twitter.
And it looks like that hint is now becoming a reality – Google is apparently testing a new feature in Maps for uploading food-related photos.
