Google Trips is here to tame all your unruly travel plans
With Google Trips, all your travel reservations are automatically gathered from Gmail and organized for you into individual trips, so you don’t have to search and dig up those emails. Today, they completely jumped in with a new app that manages and helps plan your trip from start to finish. Just planning a vacation can be pretty darn stressful.
Another really great aspect of the app is the offline aggregation of important travel itinerary information, such as details on hotel reservations and airlines. Released free to the public today, the app is created to be the future of travel guides and organisers with the added benefit of being able to operate completely offline. And, if you don’t have an Internet connection, you can browse your saved trip information when you’re offline.
Google Trips is a personalized tour guide in your pocket.
You can download Google Trips using the Play Store and App Store links below.
“Flight receipts, vehicle rental reservations.if you have that sitting in your [Gmail] inbox, the first time you open the Google Trips app that will be there”, Jonathan Alferness, vice president of product for Google Travel, told Travel + Leisure.
Trips is at its most impressive when you’ve already got a voyage in the works-flights booked, hotel reserved. Reservations organizes your flights, hotel information, and any rental vehicle reservations you may have made.
Apart from that, it gives you real-time updates on flight delays and gate changes so you’ll never miss a thing.
But the app isn’t just for collecting information – it can also make suggestions. You can select a general itinerary like “72 hours in London” or drill deeper into guides that focus on shopping, museums, or other activities.
Say you’re planning a trip to Barcelona. It makes adjustments based on time of day and weather.
“Then simply tap and pin the Sagrada Familia to build your itinerary around it. Google Trips automatically fills in the day for you”. You’ll probably want to use the account where your flight and hotel information is delivered to.
The app has 200 cities on its data so far, works offline and includes city maps and directions in a “google map style” so users can choose their transport of choice.
One of the best features is that you can save a trip offline, which is especially handy for worldwide travel.
