Google unveils Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X smartphones
Based on their official blog, the launch event introduced two Nexus smartphones, a tablet for work and play, as well as updates to Chromecast and the latest features for a few apps.
Google will also announce new smartphones like the Nexus 5X(LG) and the Nexus 6P (Huawei) with Android 6.0 out of the box.
It was launched alongside the Nexus 5X, manufactured by LG, a smaller variant with a 5.2-inch display, 2GB of RAM and hexa-core Qualcomm processor. Everything is a balance, but one particular omission from the newly announced Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X are drawing a lot of complaints: there is no Wireless Charging.
In addition to new features and design tweaks, Google says the OS will also use less battery now too, by allowing the system to go into a deeper “sleep” mode when not being used.
The new smartphone is now available for pre-order. Pricing for this higher-end flagship starts at $499 USD/$699 CAD for the 32 GB edition.
The Google team tasked with developing the Pixel family of Chromebooks has the goal of building “aspirational devices”, Pichai said.
Starting next week, the latest version of the Android OS, the Marshmallow, will be rolling out for Nexus devices.
Nexus phones make a great choice if you like Google‘s Android software unadorned by the frills, overlays and gimmicks that Samsung and other phone makers throw in to distinguish themselves in the Android world.
Google has also slashed the price of the Nexus 6 in India to Rs 33,800 (for 32GB), while the 64GB variant would now be available for Rs 37,600.
For example, the Nexus 6P – developed in partnership with Huawei – features “the best camera we’ve ever put into a Nexus device”, said Dave Burke, vice president of engineering. Until now the only information about its connectivity is that it support Bluetooth and Wi- Fi, but there are probably more connections supported by Google’s new tablet.
On the other hand, Google’s Pixel C is the first tablet built ground-up and is seen as an alternative to the iPad Pro unveiled this month and Microsoft’s Surface.
