Google unveils Nexus phones with ‘Marshmallow’ flavor
Given the prices (in USA dollars) that the new Nexus phones have been launched at, these, in all likelihood, are prices for the base models.
Google (GOOG, GOOGL) just wrapped up its annual Nexus event in San Francisco, and as expected, new Google Nexus smartphones were announced, including the new flagship Nexus 6P. The Nexus 6P comes with a 5.7-inch screen, compared to its predecessor’s 6-inch display. There are four color options to choose from: aluminum, graphite, frost, and gold. Under the hood you’ll find a Snapdragon 810, 2.0GHz octa-core 64bit with 3GB of RAM. This phone gets its juice from 3,450mAh non-removable battery. The compatible Pixel C keyboard supports inductive charging and will work for up to two months on a single charge. Although there will be no expandable storage, the 6P will be available in 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB configurations.
Nexus 5X Google has also revealed the Nexus 5X (being manufactured by LG), which offers a 5.2-inch display with a 1080p resolution (1,920 x 1,080) and a pixel density of 423 PPI. It has a 12-megapixel rear camera with laser autofocus and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera. This phone comes only in 16GB and 32GB versions, again with no microSD card slot.
The phone is only 7.3mm thick and will come in three colors, white, silver, and black. There is a 12 megapixel camera on the back capable of 4K video recording, there’s a finger print sensor known as “Nexus Imprint” and there is a USB Type-C connector.
Google also said the new version of Android, called Marshmallow, will roll out to existing Nexus customers from next week. The Nexus 6P starts at $499. Now, LG and Google return with the Nexus 5X. In the USA, pre-orders include a $50 Play credit to help you stock up your favorite music, apps, games and shows. The two phones are being sold unlocked through the Google Store, and will start shipping in October. Carriers won’t be selling the handset this time, do note.
