GOP candidate Carson threatens to leave Republican Party
But Sean Spicer, the RNC’s chief strategist and communications director, suggested that the dinner account was overblown and tried to reassure Carson on Friday, CNN reported.
Carson on Friday floated the idea that he might leave the Republican Party should elites “subvert the will of the voters” and select an establishment candidate over voters’ preferences.
U.S. Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson threatened to leave his party and launch an independent White House bid on Friday, accusing Republican Party leaders of trying to manipulate who wins the 2016 nomination.
The retired neurosurgeon slammed the party after reports emerged that GOP insiders were discussing the possibility of deal-making to decide the eventual nominee at the Republican National Convention.
“I pray that the report in the Post this morning was incorrect”, Carson said. “I won’t stand for it”, Carson said, continuing that if the report was accurate, “I assure you Donald Trump won’t be the only one leaving the party”.

In a statement, Carson expressed concern that party leaders would attempt to influence the nominating process.
Donald Trump and Ben Carson could dangle the possibility of independent runs for president well into the primary season next year, but they can’t wait forever.
“Your prayers have been answered”, Spicer said.
Even the old dogs such as current Senator and one-time Republican Presidential Candidate John McCain were willing to voice their dissent towards Trump’s comments. It is ironic that they would ask us to support the GOP candidate, as they work behind closed doors to work against 30-40% of the electorate that has stated clearly that we will not “go along to get along”. The red state of MS, a state with less than 3 million people, will send 40 delegates to the Republican National Convention.
“I am prepared to lose fair and square, as I am sure is Donald”, Carson said, the news outlet reported. A third-party run by Carson or Trump would be a worst-case scenario for the Republicans. They can’t start gathering the signatures until after March 1, the date of the Democratic and Republican presidential primaries in that state.
State party spokesman Michael Zona told CNN that Horn is not resigning and that she was not in violation of the bylaws because she is not campaigning for any candidate in the primary.
