GOP Candidate Jeb Bush Calls Donald Trump A ‘Jerk’ During Campaign Event
“And I hope you’re going to reject it by voting for me”, the former Florida governor told the crowd.
Bush’s remark came after an audience member asked how he would help people with disabilities if elected. They continued trading shots throughout the week, with Trump calling Bush “dumb as a rock” on Twitter Friday and getting in some fresh insults Saturday while campaigning in Iowa.
“I find it remarkable that we have candidates basically saying the end is near, that our country no longer is great: don’t worry I’ll fix it cause we’ll make America great again without any plans”, Bush said invoking Trump’s campaign slogan. “I gave myself therapy there”, he said.
It’s not exactly a secret that liberal Americans hate Donald Trump – but now, even his own party is turning on him.
Bush, for his part, says he’s stepping up his criticism on Trump now because Trump is displaying shallow ideas on foreign policy.
Saturday began a new phase of Bush’s campaign in New Hampshire, where the first primary will held in February, and where Bush is trying to pry away votes from two other establishment GOP candidates, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Ohio Gov. John Kasich. “You cannot insult your way to the presidency”, he said in comments transcribed by CNN.”You can’t disparage women, Hispanics, disabled people”. Trump demanded an apology from The Times and denied he knew Kovaleski. In New Hampshire, Bush is not letting up on his jabs, partially casting his decision to go after Trump as a move to save the Republican Party. Bush said, referencing Trump’s garbled answer on modernizing the nuclear triad.
A voter asked Bush if he could show in the rest of his campaign the same passion he shows in town halls, a worry perhaps stemming from Trump’s early branding of Bush as “low energy”. Jeb Bush is now polling in the single digits in all of the major polls compiled by Real Clear Politics.
That, Bush said, is ultimately up to the voters. “I want endorsements from the absolute best”.
