GOP candidates slam Obama on social media following State of the Union
Donald Trump, like many other Americans on Twitter, had strong feelings towards President Obama’s last State of the Union address. By most objective measures, the language in the State of the Union (and indeed in political discourse in general) has been getting less complex over time.
Now as an adult and a senior in college I realize that it is what makes the nation either breathe easier or harder depending on their views of the sitting president. “Those of us, in West Virginia, that haven’t done as well in this economy that he wants to brag about, I would hope that he would look and find out how this has been detrimental.” said West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin.
Obama wants more states to take advantage of the law and expand Medicaid to cover more people.
“Even as their economy contracts, Russian Federation is pouring resources to prop up Ukraine and Syria – states they see slipping away from their orbit”, Obama said.
“As we focus on destroying ISIL, over-the-top claims that this is World War III just play into their hands. We know there are still issues to be resolved, and the Administration and Congress will need to work together on those issues to set the stage for Congressional consideration”. “I’d welcome a serious discussion about strategies we can all support, like expanding tax cuts for low-income workers without kids”. Now, as many young adults continue their journey through college and into the working world, we can now more than ever feel the urgency in the need for change and share the responsibility by participating in the upcoming elections.

Obama is also right that America, at its core, is an optimistic nation, in contrast to Trump’s daily drumbeat of decline. Overall, it was an unorthodox speech that eschewed the typical laundry list of legislative priorities as Obama tried to lift the country’s gaze beyond the next year, and beyond his presidency.
Obama urged Congress to authorize the use of military force against the Islamic State group and defended his foreign policy record by touting so-called American leadership based on wise use of military power and mobilizing a global coalition to deal with challenges.
GOP House Speaker Paul Ryan of Janesville calls the Obama speech “lofty platitudes and nostalgic rhetoric” that doesn’t explain how to solve problems.
