GOP Drops Obamacare Replacement Bill, Includes Planned Parenthood Defunding
Late Wednesday, as members of the House Ways and Means Committee were in the midst of a almost 18-hour long markup of Republican’s bill to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, the chief medical officer for the Center for Medicaid and CHIP Services (CMCS) broke with the Trump administration to publicly oppose the White House-backed legislation. One is the support of President Donald Trump, who reportedly warned Republicans of an electoral bloodbath if they don’t pass the bill. There’s also the risk that if Republicans botch this attempt at Obamacare repeal they may never pull it off.
“We as Republicans have been waiting seven years to do this”. “That’s part of the process”. That deadline, however, did not appear to work for Sen.
Such a move, however, could blow up the already fragile efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act.
“If they have 218 votes we won’t get any changes”. However, when asking if they are for or oppose the Affordable Care Act, only 37% opposed. In a press briefing on Wednesday, he said the administration will be looking at Affordable Care Act regulations “and make certain that if they help patients, then we need to continue them”.
“House health-care bill can’t pass Senate w/o major changes”. To my friends in House: pause, start over.
“I don’t think the Senate would vote on that bill”, Cotton said, adding that many within the GOP hold similar skepticism for a draft that has formulated over so little time. The Trump plan would freeze participation in the Medicaid expansion after 2020, making those who temporarily earn more and become ineligible permanently shut out of the current program. In addition, at least 4 Republican senators say they can not support it in its current form.
“It’s kind of insane they’re voting without a score”, Sen.
“Insurance is not really the end goal here”, said Office of Budget and Management director Mick Mulvaney, in an interview with NBC.
“GOP shouldn’t act like Dems did in O’care”. Mike Lee complained on Twitter nearly immediately after the bill’s release Monday night. “With no budget estimate!”
The Freedom Caucus consists of some three dozen of the most conservative House members. It’s telling that House Republicans did not procure this score before introducing the bill.
“If someone’s got an idea that can make this legislation more accessible, give more choice to the American people, drive down costs, make it more patient-centered, he wants to listen to it”, Spicer said. “I would have rather seen it out for a week or 10 days before they go to a committee and mark it up”, the Iowa Republican told Cuomo. Insurers could charge older customers five times as much as younger ones instead of the current 3-to-1 limit but would still be required to include children up to age 26 in family policies, and they would be barred from imposing annual or lifetime benefit caps. Mike Lee joining Paul’s chorus, McConnell can afford to lose only one more Republican vote from his narrow 52-member majority.
Democrats, conservative Republicans, Obamacare critics, conservative groups, and hospitals are among those opposing the Republican healthcare plan announced Monday, albeit for very different reasons. The plan may also have less robust coverage of things like mental health care.
“Under President Trump’s leadership, we’re actually also going to finally allow Americans to purchase health insurance across state lines – the way you buy life insurance, the way you buy auto insurance”.
