GOP Presidential Hopeful Rubio Talks Economy In Detroit
We’re told the Florida senator will be outlining his plans to cut taxes and reform schools. He’s also expected to speak to the Detroit Economic Club earlier Thursday afternoon at the Westin Book Cadillac hotel in downtown Detroit. They include lowering corporate tax rates, loosening regulations and broadening college accreditation. He also said he wants to boost the Child Tax Credit and make two personal income tax brackets.
Rubio announced his candidacy for the presidency back in April. “And that is why this city, the heart of the old economy, is the ideal place to discuss how we can embrace A New American Economy – one even grander and richer in opportunity than ever before”.
Rubio’s visit to the Seven Mile office won’t be the first by a 2016 presidential candidate in the previous year.
On Thursday, Rubio took government leaders in Washington to task for being slow to embrace innovation, and praised Michigan’s Republican Gov. Rick Snyder for cutting corporate taxes and creating an entrepreneurial environment.
In the most recent polls Rubio is still in the single digits.
Some critics have said Rubio’s outlook for the economy is too optimistic, and globalization and automation will continue to hurt the U.S. middle class. However, Rubio has insisted the U.S. economy can innovate its way out of any job-loss crisis.
