GOP sees no immediate fundraising boost from Trump
After racking up primary victories mostly on free publicity and more than $40 million of his own money, he said he would rely on outside donors to finance his expected battle with Clinton.
Most people who normally vote for Republicans are going to need strong forces pushing them away if they are going to defect to Clinton, the Libertarian Gary Johnson, or even just stay home on Election Day.
Additionally, Trump was widely condemned as expressing racist views after he said a federal judge couldn’t be fair to him because of his Mexican heritage. “It’s unusual and it’s a heavy task”.
According to The New York Times, Hillary Clinton garners 44 percent of votes over Trump’s 38 percent on national polls.
Trump’s decision to oust Corey Lewandowski aims to put an end to the months of infighting that had roiled his unconventional campaign.
Together, Trump and the Republican National Committee brought in about $18.6 million in May, including another loan from the candidate.
But there’s little sign that the event kicked off an avalanche of support.
This is particularly fantastic because just yesterday we upgraded Trump’s campaign from being a “dumpster fire” to a “landfill inferno” – and that was before learning about any of the bombshells in this week’s FEC report. Many national Republicans repudiated Trump’s remarks, though most leading Florida Republicans were silent on the issue. But the total amount it collected in May, $13 million, is just slightly ahead of its tally in April.
By comparison, four years earlier, Romney helped the RNC bring in $34m and begin June 2012 with more than $60m in available cash.
Trump had a bumpy ride in recent weeks. As a result, Trump’s campaign started June with $1.3 million in the bank; Clinton has $42 million. We all (especially the media and the campaigns) have a tendency to overreact to every twist and turn in the campaign.
Clinton’s campaign has about $21m reserved for TV ads in major swing states while the Trump campaign has not made any general election ad buys.
Trump only has $1.3 million in cash on hand.
A new analysis by the economic research firm Moody’s Analytics suggests that Trump’s trade, taxes, immigration and spending policies would reduce economic output and reduce employment by 3.5 million jobs in his first term.
Then there’s Mr. Trump’s infrastructure problems. Big donors aren’t flocking to him. Now that he’s signaled that he welcomes their support, several groups of supporters are jockeying to collect these donations.
The primary Super PAC supporting Trump, Great America PAC, reported raising $1.4 million in May – accounting for most of the $2.5 million the group has raised this year. Another was set up with help from Trump’s friend Barrack, but isn’t required to report on its fundraising progress until next month. Her super PAC Priorities USA has $52 million. A plurality said Trump would be better at creating jobs and fighting the the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) than Clinton.
Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders saw his fundraising pace decline in May, as he barnstormed western states – especially California – for what ended up being decisive losses to Hillary Clinton.
“It’s got to become much more disciplined and much more focused and much more organized and have a bigger structure”, said Stephen Stepanek, the campaign’s New Hampshire co-chair, of Trump’s organization in the wake of Lewandowski’s departure.
