GOP undercard debate underway in SC
Dubbed by The Daily Show as “GOP Debate: Singles Night”, the event featured Paul discussing war in the Middle East, the economy, gun control and drugs while sharing a drink with the show’s host, Trevor Noah.
Rand Paul is mad as hell about being excluded from the next Republican presidential debate, and on Thursday, Paul had one word for the media. Voters in those states will be the first to indicate their preferences, in the Iowa caucuses February 1 and the New Hampshire primary February 9.
Paul argued that the polls used to determine the cutoff for entry to the main Fox Business debate were flawed. Marco Rubio, Ohio Gov. John Kasich, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, and neurosurgeon Ben Carson. He has subsequently refused to participate in the earlier, lower-tier debate featuring other lower-polling candidates. Kentucky Senator Rand Paul turned down an offer to be in the debate, which will be moderated by anchors Trish Regan and Sandra Smith.
What that translates into is at least 7 million sets of eyes on Paul compared to the 4.7 million that watched the last Fox Business debate, according to CNN.
That poll was not released in time to be considered for the debate.
Eschewing the debate stage for a virtual exchange was a bold move, but it paid off for Paul – at least on social media. “We’ve got a first-tier campaign”.
Participation in the Fox Business News debate was decided based on the results of national, New Hampshire and Iowa polling.
“People have to realize that what the media is doing here is pre-deciding an election”, he told CNN’s Alisyn Camerota on “New Day”.
Rand Paul and Carly Fiorina did not qualify for the main debate, and were invited to participate in the undercard with Mike Huckabee and Rick Santorum. “I am the one voice saying we shouldn’t make the sand glow”.
Paul’s platform includes criminal justice reform, something he says has attracted some interest from black voters he says feel taken for granted by the Democratic Party. We think it’s a mistake that they made.
