Gordon Strachan praises Celtic’s Stuart Armstrong after call-up, says he’s
Gordon Strachan has indicated Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths will be in his next Scotland squad.
Armstrong was last selected in May 2013, but returns under Gordon Strachan as they prepare for crucial Euro 2016 qualifiers against Georgia and Germany next month.
The midfielder, 23, was previously in the full squad but did not play. “I think it was two years ago he was in the squad”, the 58-year-old is quoted as saying by BBC Sport.
STUART ARMSTRONG will today earn his first Scotland call-up since joining Celtic.
“It’s dealing with the big-game mentality, dealing with the pressure and the crowds”.
“That’s something that the boys at Celtic have to deal with all the time, and Stuart, as far as I can see, is dealing with that well”, added Strachan, himself a former Celtic manager. He seems to be snug at the extent he’s taking part in in & he’s turning in to a serious figure in games.’ After spending 5 seasons at Dundee United, Armstrong signed for Ronny Deila’s Bhoys in February alongside United team-mate Gary Mackay-Steven, 24, who has one cap for Scotland.
Scotland take on Georgia in Tblisi on Friday 4 September before welcoming World Cup winners Germany to Hampden Park on Monday 7 September.
