Gorham High School ends school dances because of grinding
Last year, most students walked out of a homecoming dance after being reminded that grinding was prohibited, Record says.
Members of the school’s administration said modern dance culture is too suggestive for them to condone.
Pramenko, in her letter, said students were shown a short video about the ban and further on how to “treat each other respectfully, not only at dances, but at all times”.
He describes in a few detail what grinding is, how awkward it’s made dance chaperones, and even mentions how they actually tried to fix this before.
He also says younger students have complained about being pressured to participate in grinding. The principal of eight years said he wanted to make sure the school fostered an environment where all students feel safe and respected.
Prom will still go on because “it is a classier event”, Record writes.
“I’ve got to look out for the safety of all my students and try to help us have a positive culture”, Record said.
Officials at Littleton Public Schools did not respond to messages seeking comment about the new policy left Monday and Tuesday.
Despite the controversy, many students and parents have told Record that they are disappointed about missing out on the homecoming dance.
