Gotham: Pee Wee Herman To Play Penguin’s Father
Do you remember the brief scene where Paul Reubens – better known as the comedian Pee-wee Herman – played the Penguin’s father in Tim Burton’s Batman Returns?
Reubens’s casting follows on from the news that Raul Castillo has joined the cast as Eduardo Flamingo, and further adds to Alfred actor Sean Pertwee’s promise that “all hell breaks loose” in season two. But his father hasn’t been mentioned much if at all. Television panel at this year’s New York Comic-Con, where Robin Lord Taylor, who plays Oswald Cobblepot aka The Penguin, revealed who has been cast as his character’s father. Now Pee-Wee Herman will play a different version of the Penguin’s dear old dad, this time on Gotham. “What the hell? Oh my god!”
Reubens will make his debut on Gotham during Season 2, which is now underway.
Of course, there are still many more roles on Gotham that Marilyn Manson could just as easily take, and there are hopes that he could end up being connected to the character of The Joker in a few fashion.
Lord Taylor broke the news during the show’s panel at the New York Comic Con.
“We wanted to trace the development of season 1 from old-time mobster to trace the trajectory of the rise of the super villains”, Stephens explained, via Entertainment Weekly.
Gotham airs on Mondays at 8/7c on Fox in the USA and is coming soon to the UK.
