Gov. Brown Approves Stripping ‘Lynching’ from California Code

But Carrey did not get permission to use the image of now 14-year-old Alex Echols – and his family is not happy about it. “I’m very disgusted and sickened”, Alex’s aunt, Elizabeth Welch, wrote on Instagram.
“My name is Rhett, and I give a damn”, Rhett Krawitt said to a cheering crowd in Tiburon, California.
Under the law, vaccinations would be required of children first entering public school, or when they enter seventh grade, after July 1, 2016.
Under the new law, only children with serious medical conditions can get an exemption and any other unvaccinated child has to be homeschooled, the AP reported. A handful of people, majority mothers who identified themselves as Elk Grove residents, stated they opposed the legislation.
The bill makes California the third United States state, after Mississippi and West Virginia, to eliminate religious and other personal exemptions to vaccinations for children. Anti-vaccinators seize on widely discredited studies linking vaccines to autism and other medical maladies. Measles continues to be a health threat in many parts of the world and we have the resources here to prevent an epidemic.
The state’s overall vaccination rate appears sufficient to maintain what immunologists call herd immunity, or the percentage at which enough people are vaccinated to protect the community as a whole.
“Safe schools are important, and immunization is a valuable protection against outbreaks of infectious diseases”, Mr. Baker said in an April statement.
“Gov. Jerry Brown signed away a parent’s right to choose what’s best for their child”, he wrote.
The bill proved contentious, with thousands of parents calling representatives and protesting at the Capitol in Sacramento.

“I think vaccinating our pediatric population – we have to do it”, she said. The city of Berlin is facing an outbreak of measles that in recent weeks has led to over 700 cases and one confirmed death of a little boy who had not been vaccinated. Still actor Jim Carrey went to the length of posting last week that “This corporate fascist must be stopped” in reference to Governor Brown signing the vaccination bill and Carrey’s continuing belief that children “are not bottomless pits that you endlessly pour substances into”.
Evidence suggests that jurisdictions with more stringent rules have wider coverage, but leaving parents no say might create a backlash, said Deeks Thursday.
Supporters of the vaccination bills have tried to dismiss foes as anti-government conservatives, but the loosely organized coalition is nothing if not politically diverse. The CDC notes, by the way, that “Since 2001, with the exception of a few influenza (flu) vaccines, thimerosal is not used as a preservative in routinely recommended childhood vaccines”.
