Gov. Snyder: Clinton Politicizing Flint’s Water Crisis
The 70 new guardsmen more than doubled the number already in Flint to hand out bottled water, filters and testing kits in the city’s worst-hit neighborhoods.
President Barack Obama has declared a state of emergency in response to the water crisis in Flint, Michigan, where thousands of residents have been exposed to toxic amounts of lead.
“Somebody made a trade off. And the people of Flint have been betrayed”, Jackson said.
Although the decision to switch to the Flint River as a water source was done to reduce spending, it will likely cost Flint more money. The water, it turned out, contains high levels of iron from Flint River and lead from connecting pipes. Pediatrician Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha also began to notice elevated lead levels in Flint’s children. The Department of Justice and Michigan’s attorney general are looking into the matter. Snyder has been accused of allowing the problem to fester. Protesters started outside the University of Michigan Rackham Building on East Washington and headed west to Main Street and Snyder’s condo above the Four Directions retail shop, 211 S. Main St.
Lindstrom says one of the sad ironies of the Flint water crisis that Governor Snyder “adores children”. She suggested that if the problem had occurred in a wealthy, predominantly white suburb of Detroit “there would have been action”. The corrosive water caused lead to leach from old pipes.
Her chief rival, Vermont Sen.
To which candidate Bernie Sanders added “the governor should resign”.
“Because of the conduct by Gov. Snyder’s administration and his refusal to take responsibility, families will suffer from lead poisoning for the rest of their lives”, Sanders said.
“Obviously, I care”, Snyder said.
“We’re going to keep working on putting solutions in place”, Snyder told The Detroit News. As a result, the city water becomes contaminated and the health of more or less 100,000 people from Flint is at great risk. Between Jan. 9 and Jan 16, some 20,800 cases of bottled water and 47,900 water filters were distributed, according to a Sunday release from the state. “They did this. They knew”. He said the water contamination was intentional. I issued a statement about what we needed to do and then I went on a T.V. show and I said it was outrageous that the governor hadn’t acted. “I don’t want to walk away from it”.
An emergency manager approach undermines democracy and local governments, she said.
Moore later sent out a tweet calling Snyder a criminal.
