Government refutes Kejriwal’s claim that opposition is being targeted
Aam Aadmi Party workers from here and neighbouring Thane district today protested against the CBI raid at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s office building in Delhi, calling it a “blatant misuse” of the agency by Centre. Jaitley had yesterday dismissed the allegations against him as “rubbish”. Devpreet Singh, CBI spokesperson, said, “CBI has already clarified that office of chief minister of Delhi was neither searched nor sealed”.
By informing the Delhi Chief Minister about the raids at his secretariat, the investigating agency could have avoided what has now become a full-fledged political war.
He has been accused of setting up various companies to give work contracts without tenders which has been a huge loss to the Delhi government.
Kejriwal insisted that the CBI officials had searched his room too and read the file related to the probe report on the DDCA he had ordered.
Referring to the controversy raked up by Kejriwal over the CBI action against his Principal Secretary, he accused the Chief Minister of resorting to “false propaganda continuously”.
This led to a odd drama being played out at the Delhi secretariat with both Kumar and Dharam Pal, who had been appointed by the Centre to replace Kumar, acting as home secretary for a few days.
“Secondly a state government and a party which is the dock for having supported corruption and having interfered in an investigation in this manner can’t really deflect the issue without any basis”, Jailtey said.
“Kejriwal has been all the time been preventing towards corruption and I’ve all the time informed Arvind to have individuals of excellent character round him”.
In another stormy interaction with the media, the AAP’s Ashutosh called Jaitley the “master of half-truths, masterful lies.’ The party reiterated its demand for Jaitley’s resignation, and posed ‘five questions” to him on the alleged DDCA scam.
CBI today justified its action saying the list of all the files seized will be placed before the court even as it continued questioning Kejriwals’s Principal Secretary in a corruption case.
