Governor’s rule imposed in Jammu & Kashmir
As PDP’s Mehbooba Mufti seemed to be keeping its ally on tenterhooks, the BJP is in favour of continuing with the power-sharing arrangement between the two parties in Jammu and Kashmir. After this, we will start discussions”, he said when asked if BJP had any differences with its alliance partner over the succession of Sayeed ” s daughter and PDP President Mehbooba Mufti as the next Chief Minister.
“Nobody can even remotely suggest to her that she break her mourning and be sworn in (as the Jammu and Kashmir chief minister)”.
Sayeed passed away on Thursday morning at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi.
Mehbooba Mufti of the PDP who is all set to become the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir after the death of her father has not indicated anything clearly to the BJP as yet.
“Mufti Sahib was not only her father but guide, mentor and inspiration”.
Last time the state was brought under the Governor’s Rule was on December 23, 2014, after the state assembly election results threw up a hung verdict. The Governor rule was posed in Kashmir as the PDP and the BJP deferred government formation till the end of the four-day mourning period. In this context, BJP is not going to jump the gun before PDP makes up its mind and intimates it officially. “She (Mehbooba Mufti) is in mourning right now”, he said.
Karra said that a new situation has emerged after the death of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
“Sonia ji had come yesterday”. “They spurned that offer when we must it previous year”, he said.
“We are not in any condition to discuss government formation at this moment so how can there be any talk of conditions”, Akhtar said. “Any further development on the formation of government would depend on how soon the party president is able to hold consultations and seek advice on the issue”, senior PDP leader Naeem Akhtar told PTI when asked whether any step has been initiated for forming the next government.
To a question on delay, Sharma said PDP has to go to the Governor to inform about their leader.
In short, while the visit of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, along with her party colleagues Ghulam Nabi Azad and Ambika Soni, triggered speculation about a possible realignment of political forces, it is now clear that for the moment, it will be a PDP-BJP government again.
Earlier, opposition events National Conference, Congress and Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party expressed concern over the delay within the swearing-in of the brand new CM.
