Gowdy to offer Rubio his ‘full support,’ aide says
Marco Rubio (R-Fla.). The two are set to begin a weather-shortened two-day swing through Iowa Tuesday. “I look forward to campaigning in Iowa with him, and introducing my good friend to voters across the state”, Gowdy said in a statement.
Rubio now places third or fourth in many polls, consistently behind Donald Trump and Sen. Ted Cruz and businessman Donald Trump. But, Gowdy is also widely popular among establishment Republicans, a group Rubio must make inroads with if he hopes to compete with the anti-establishment front-runners, Sen. “It was a total not-good for Republicans and for the country”, Trump said, according to Business Insider.
“I hope [Gowdy] does a better job than he did, frankly, at the Benghazi hearings, because they were a total disaster”, Trump said Sunday morning on “Fox and Friends”, according to the Washington Examiner.
“I mean, beyond Republicans it was very bad for the country”, he said.
As part of a sweeping probe into the 2012 Benghazi terror attacks, Gowdy famously led a bipartisan panel that interrogated Clinton, Obama’s former Secretary of State, for 11 hours.
Trump jumped on Gowdy for campaigning with rival Rubio, retweeting criticism of Gowdy. It’s a major show of support from a Republican who had previously recoiled at the idea of making a 2016 endorsement and who had joked with colleagues like Rep. Mick Mulvaney, R-S.C., for getting behind candidacies that went nowhere.
“Face it, Trey Gowdy failed miserably on Benghazi”. He allowed it to drag out and in the end, let Hillary get away with murder.
