Grandmother Dawn Raines-Hewes arrested ‘for drowning her grandson in bath’
FAIRFIELD-A woman has been arrested after her young grandson drowned in a bathtub under suspicious circumstances this morning in Fairfield, police said Tuesday.
Police said Raines-Hewes was booked into Solano County jail Tuesday night on suspicion of murder. Police questioned Raines-Hewes and over the course of the interview police said they determined the drowning was not accidental.
The boy was in the care of his grandmother, 51-year-old Dawn Diana Raines-Hewes, when the incident happened, police said.
Police and firefighters responded shortly before 11 a.m. She is suspected of intentionally drowning the boy in the Fairfield police Officer Cleo Mayoral told the news station.
“I think it’s very sad”.
Police late Tuesday were not releasing any information regarding a motive. There were two other grandchildren, a 1 year-old girl and 6 year-old girl, also under the care of Raines-Hewes. Efforts to determine whether Raines-Hewes had an attorney who could comment on the allegations were not immediately successful.
