Grandmother gives birth to own granddaughter
A 53-year-old woman gave birth to her granddaughter Wednesday afternoon after agreeing to carry the child for her daughter.
ABC News reports Tracey Thompson, 53, offered to act as a surrogate for her 28-year-old daughter after her third miscarriage last year.
Thompson, who is also the mother of a 30-year-old son, in addition to Kelley, and a grandmother to a 3-year-old, became pregnant in April with one of the McKissack’s four embryos remaining from their final round of in vitro fertilization (IVF). She weighed 6 pounds and 11 ounces.
“This is such a blessing that I can do this for my daughter”, Thompson said.
She had to undergo “a series of carefully coordinated medical treatments” to be able to carry her daughter’s baby. Grandmother and baby are both healthy.

Thompson had to receive medical treatments in order to prepare her body for the pregnancy. “Her and her husband had gone through so much – the miscarriages and fertility”, Thompson told WFAA-TV. “I’m afraid we tend to put him in this little box because then it feels safe for us, rather than understanding that God is almighty and he uses different channels for his objective”, Spencer said on the phone Thursday. ‘I didn’t want to disappoint her’.
“That uterus is being caught unaware, so it does take sort of a miracle of modern science to get that done”, Dr. Kaye said. When Kelcey was born, the entire family was emotional. “She should know just how special and wanted she is”.
