Grandson of Jimmy Carter dies at 28

Carter said that Jeremy Carter, 28, wasn’t feeling well Saturday afternoon and went to lie down at his parents’ home. Jeremy’s mother tried to wake him, only to learn his heart had “quit beating”. Jeremy was the son of Annette and Jeff Carter, the latter of whom is the youngest of Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter’s three sons.

He died early Sunday at the hospital. Mowell said the cause of death is not yet known, and the state medical examiner’s office is assisting in the investigation.

“That’s the kind of Christian he is”. Pastor Jeremy Shoulta said news of his death hit the congregation hard.

Carter, a Democrat and one-time peanut farmer and former Georgia governor, served one term as U.S. president, from 1977 to 1981.

According to churchgoers, Carter continued his class after sharing the heartbreaking news and even took pictures with those in attendance.

Carter announced at the same church two weeks ago that he was cancer-free, four months after he revealed that his melanoma had spread from his liver to his brain.

“I should be joyful and thankful to God for giving me both life and freedom”, Carter said.

Despite the tragic loss, the former President taught Sunday school as he has for many years. He continues to undergo regular treatment.
