Grave digger arrested in Lincoln County
A Lincoln County man is in jail after deputies say he was caught trying to dig up a grave.
Michael Dale May was found by police in the Pilot Baptist Church cemetery in Stanford, Kentucky, US, on Monday night.
He allegedly wanted to argue with his dead father so much that he decided to dig him up out of his grave.
He was arrested on multiple charges, including violating a grave, public intoxication, and possession of marijuana.
In a jailhouse interview with WLEX, May acknowledged that he was, indeed, trying to exhume his father, who he said died more than 30 years ago. That’s when I went and got my flashlight. May also said he believed that he had done nothing wrong.
“I went back and hollered for him to step back in the light and he told me to step back to the dark”, said the officer.
He left open the possibility that he’d try to dig his father up again. His response was unusual and chilling.
“I see the truth. he needs to be on the ground. Not under it”.
Michael May was caught by police digging up the grave at a cemetery in Sanford, Kentucky, quoting Bible verses as he dug. There are 13 people named May buried at the cemetery, but the only name fitting that timeline was a person named Willis Green May, WAVE3.com reports.
