‘Grease: Live’ Casts Aaron Tveit as Danny Zuko, Carlos PenaVega as Kenickie
In addition, Carlos PenaVega (Big Time Rush) has been cast as Danny’s BFF Kenickie.
Grease follows the tempestuous romance between tough-talking high schooler Danny Zuko and shy, demure Sandy.
Tveit will star opposite Julianne Hough as Sandy and joins a cast that also includes Vanessa Hudgens as bad girl Rizzo and Keke Palmer (Scream Queens) as Pink Lady Marty Maraschino.
“I’m thrilled and honored to be joining this incredibly talented team of actors in re-imagining this classic and beloved musical”, Aaron said in a Fox press release. “This is my dream role and performing it live on television will be one of the most thrilling opportunities I’ve had in my career so far”.
Film and television audiences will recognize him from the 2012 Les Misérables film in which he played Enjolras as well as from his starring role on U.S. Network’s Graceland.
Needless to say, Tveit is an accomplished singer, dancer, and actor with a long list of credits on both stage and screen, and he’s a consummate professional, and he’ll do a great job in the challenging role of Danny. As for TV, he’s guest-starred on The Good Wife, Law & Order: SVU and Ugly Better. He also was a member of the band Big Time Rush.
GREASE: LIVE is executive-produced by Marc Platt (“Wicked“, “Into the Woods”).
Grease: Live will air live at 7 p.m. ET on Sunday, January 31 on Fox. Broadway writers Robert Cary (Anything but Love) and Jonathan Tolins (Buyer & Cellar) will pen the the live TV adaptation.
