Greece has not asked us for financial help, says Russian minister
“Greece has not requested any aid, we are not considering such an issue”, the minister said.
(MENAFN – The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke to Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on Monday following Greece’s rejection of Europe’s bailout proposals, the Kremlin said.
“Greece is a country with which we have long-standing, historically close relations and a multidimensional partnership”. The results of the referendum showed that 61.31% of voters rejected the bailout prposal, while 38.69% accepted it. Putin expressed his country’s support in overcoming the “difficulties” that may occur in Greece following the public vote.
Peskov said in comments carried by state media that the aid issue would likely be addressed during an upcoming BRICS emerging economies summit that starts on Wednesday in the Russian city of Ufa.
A Greek government official said Putin had initiated the call, which took place during a break in talks in Athens between Tsipras and political party leaders today, ahead of renewed negotiations with eurozone creditors. Spain is also supporting Greece in staying in the euro zone.
Earlier, Pushkov told Russian state news agency TASS that now there were two ways the situation could go.
Moscow is now locked in its own standoff with the European Union over the crisis in Ukraine.
