Greek-US officer among three to disarm gunman on train
“I’m really proud of my friend that he just reacted so quickly and so bravely”, Anthony Sadler said.
Ahmed Meguini/via Twitter A video grab pulled from passenger Ahmed Meguini’s Twitter video shows the scene moments after a 26-year-old Moroccan national attempted to shoot up a Thalys train traveling from Amsterdam to Paris. I heard some glass breaking.
“He’s a strong kid in so many ways – physically and emotionally”, Alek’s father, Emanuel Skarlatos, said. Then he added, “He inspires me”.
“I’m just a college student”, Sadler, who is a senior and studies physical therapy at Sac State, told Reuters.
Airman Spenser Stone was critically injured subduing the gunman, but will hopefully recover from his injures. “And the three of us beat him until he was unconscious”.
Mr Norman was the next person on the scene to help tackle the gunman. This time past year, the city had 72 murders.
The story leading worldwide news coverage this weekend is the thwarting of a gunman’s attack on a European train by three American tourists and a British national.
The gunman was tackled by off-duty American soldiers and bundled to the floor – but staff left passengers to fend for themselves, French actor Jean-Hugues Anglade said.
A man then burst into their auto, fumbling with a magazine for the rifle. “I looked up and saw a guy carrying an AK-47 or at least I assume it was some kind of machine-gun”, he said. “I ducked down in my seat”.
Emanuel Skarlatos said his son told him that he and his friends were about 10 yards away from the gunman when they rushed him.
“When I talked to Spencer, he said, I would have been killed if it wasn’t for Alek”, Joyce Esker said, Spencer’s mom. “We ended up by tying him up”.
Stone was slashed by the box cutter in the head and neck multiple times.
Stone also helped treat a passenger who sustained a serious neck injury during the incident.
Christophe Piednoel, a spokesman for the French railway, said, “The man was armed with automatic weapons and knives”.
The train was diverted to Arras, where the injured were taken to hospital.
“I grabbed his right arm”, Norman said of the suspect.
Belgian prosecutors said yesterday they had formally opened an anti-terrorism probe.
“He’s in good spirits, he’s in disbelief it happened himself”, Sadler said.
They have been praised by the French and American presidents. El-Khazzani was identified through his fingerprints, according to the official, who insisted on not being identified by name because of the ongoing probe.
The two U.S. servicemen then intervened and managed to force the assailant to the ground and tie his hands. The White House also praised their actions, saying that they had helped prevent “a far worse tragedy”.
Three Americans – two of them service members – helped foil a potentially deadly attack when they subdued an attacker on board a high-speed train bound for Paris, officials said.
Luckily for those onboard, the American service members heard the would-be jihadist loading his weapon in the restroom.
