Green Bay Packers: A victory for the ages
But a Hail Mary set the Packers apart in the game.
They were literally done at the 0:00 mark of the game when Rodgers was tackled on the last portion of a series of laterals in an attempt to replicate the play made famous by Rodgers’ alma mater, the Cal-Stanford “Band Is Out On The Field” walk-off touchdown. They improved to 8-4 this year while the Lions fall to 4-8 following the 27-23 ballgame, as FOX Sports reports.
In his Friday news conference, McCarthy wouldn’t give specifics as to why Lacy didn’t start and only played 19 snaps on the heels of breaking a slump with back-to-back 100-yard games against Minnesota and Chicago. The gain of 29 yards helped the Lions trim down the clock.
“This is either a wake-up call for the Lions, who have won three in a row and began the streak with a shocker in Lambeau, or for the Packers, who are running out of time for things to just straighten out for them on their own”.
Meanwhile, the division-rival Packers experienced tremendous joy in the miraculous, come-from-behind win. That call will be debated for some time, but one thing that cannot be disputed is that the final play of Thursday night was as entertaining as football can be. “I don’t know if you can write that script”.
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) – Packers coach Mike McCarthy left no doubt about where the team’s no-time-left win in Detroit stands for him. “What a great game to be a part of. You want to get the ball into the end zone and you want to get people around it. However you orchestrate that, I mean you don’t want to throw it short and you don’t want to throw it out”, Belichick said. There was no insane bounce, no pile of players fighting over the ball while falling to the ground.
“Nothing happened last week with Eddie”, McCarthy said. The emotional toll was obvious when CBS cameras caught Stafford tossing his hat and Calvin Johnson falling to his knees.
But Thursday night – and the 2012 game – show the refs can giveth and taketh away. “It’s not an easy pill to swallow”. Not if there had been a rule in effect allowing reviews of all plays in the final two minutes of a game.
“A lot of times, we practice it from like the 50 or maybe the (minus) 45”, Rodgers said.
All hail Aaron Rodgers, for he is the king of Green Bay Packers football. That was made clear to our players and with the expectations and the commitment that we’ve made to each other, and we’ve got to do a better job. After a freakish touchdown where Randall Cobb recovered a James Starks fumble, the Packers found some life. The running game was held in check the entire game as Green Bay had a mere 67 total yards on the ground with Aaron Roders leading with 27 of those.
The Packers have given the players the weekend off. They’ll return to work on Monday to start preparing for the Sunday, Dec. 13 game against the Dallas Cowboys at Lambeau Field. However, the real reason that I am reviewing is that there is criticism towards the referee’s call on Detroit Lions’ defensive end Devin Taylor for pulling Aaron Rodgers’ facemask, when in fact that the facemask was not really touched.
