Green Bay Packers’ Aaron Rodgers, Eddie Lacy Mount Comeback; Is
I was outnumbered by Vikings fans watching the game. The table said the same thing as the scoreboard – an opportunity had been lost.
“Big picture? We play here Thursday night”.
Aaron Rodgers threw two touchdown passes without a turnover, Datone Jones had two of Green Bay’s six sacks and Eddie Lacy contributed a season-high 100 yards in a 30-13 victory over Minnesota on Sunday that stopped a three-game losing streak.
It was clear from the start that the Vikings are an improved team, but better than the Packers?
On Sunday against the Vikings, the Packers finally followed through. “You knew we were going to get their best shot, and we didn’t give them ours”.
“Maybe we’ll get you guys off our back for a couple days”, Rodgers told reporters. This week’s game looked to be a huge one as two classic NFC North rivals faced off, possibly with the division on the line. In the first quarter, under duress (as he was much of the game), Bridgewater stepped up in the pocket and feathered a handsome touch pass to Kyle Rudolph just over the outstretched hands of Micah Hyde, and Rudolph took it in for a 47-yard touchdown pass (the longest of his career).
Then something happened Sunday amidst the Twin Cities cold and that incredibly annoying horn that’s played every time the Vikings don’t screw up… the Packers seem to remember what got them to 6-0.
In the first three games after the Packers’ bye, Jones combined to have three catches for 59 yards and zero touchdowns.
Adrian Peterson was held to just 45 yards, his second worst performance of the season on the ground.
Lacy finished with 22 carries for 100 yards (4.5 average) and had a 27-yard run. Two more than he’s gotten in his past three games. He had 16 completions and 18 incompletions, and that was emblematic of an offense that often appeared out of rhythm and out of sync.
“We’ll be in a 1-2 punch (again)”, McCarthy said.
Lacy also shared his concerns regarding his performance – pointing out that he is aware of the struggles he faced this season and how these have been affecting their National Football League team. None of those teams has a winning record. Green Bay needs him to be a legitimate No. 1 target for the Packers against Chicago’s poor secondary and it will be intriguing to see if he is able to do that. Since their Week 7 bye, Green Bay’s defense registered no sacks and only a few pressures against a trio of mediocre offensive lines. I think the way you play, it is about the simplistic nature you go about – fundamentals and so forth. From early in the second quarter on, the Packers led the Vikings, and for most of the second half that lead was double digits.
Green Bay drove 80 yards in seven plays, as Rodgers connected with James Jones on a 27-yard strike along the right sideline. But instead his fumble on the run that gave him that benchmark was the play that might have sunk the team’s final effort to pull out a win. But, he added, “If we want to get over the hump, that’s who we have to beat. Everybody knows the division goes through there”. They had the 26th ranked defense coming into the game. Peterson did not hold back when asked about that.
Players lamented that the team didn’t perform at its highest level against a Packers squad that won its first six games of the season before dropping its next three.
“I think sometimes we play a little better when we start to get questioned”, said Rodgers, who was a ho-hum 16 for 34 for 212 yards but brilliant when he needed to be on third-down scoring passes to Jones and Randall Cobb.
