Green Party Presidential Candidate Jill Stein continues her campaign trail in Cleveland
Jill Stein was the Green Party’s presidential candidate in 2012, receiving 0.3% of the vote in OH and 0.4% nationally.
Stein was slated to speak at noon at Capital University, a school in Bexley, OH, near Columbus. But as roughly 100 people gathered at the appointed place and time word came that the candidate had flown to Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Airport and would have to drive to the Columbus event more than 100 miles away.
Pizzas were delivered to supporters as a token of appreciation for their patience. Stein said she hopes to pick up disgruntled supporters of the main two political party candidates as well as self-declared democratic socialist U.S. Sen.
While at Capital University, Stein focused much of her speech on employment opportunities for college graduates. “Your generation has become the latest cash cow in a predatory economy that has deprived you of jobs, that has deprived you of a climate future, and then has saddled you in predatory student debt”, Stein said.
How Stein can remain the Green Party candidate while treating the Earth in this irresponsible is a mystery within itself. Michelle Rosin, however, a volunteer with the OH for Jill Stein Campaign, holds out hope for a Jill Stein Presidency in the wake of the Democratic National Convention (DNC). Considering she called her competitors “fossil fuel-funded candidates who are continuing to fan the flames of the burning planet”, it seems she has a lot of soul-searching to do.
In four-way national polls with Republican Donald Trump, Democrat Hillary Clinton and Libertarian Gary Johnson, Stein is receiving about 3-% support.
Stein and Johnson saw little success in their 2012 bids, with Johnson winning 1.3 million votes and Stein less than half a million.
