Green Party requests vote recount in Pennsylvania
She said: “Nevertheless, county clerks have been gearing up to complete this recount under a very challenging (December 13) deadline”.
A Republican lawyer says the courts lack authority to order a statewide recount. However, it’s not clear if the courts have the power to do that.
A group of voting security experts and election lawyers said last week that Clinton should ask for a recount in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and MI as there were outstanding questions about the voting results in the close contests between Clinton and president-elect Donald Trump.
In a fundraising effort she began on Thursday, Stein has raised over $6 million to fund recounts in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and MI, although whether the recounts will actually, you know, do anything is an open question.
Trump quoted Clinton in his statement writing, “as Hillary Clinton herself said on election night…”
What I am saying is that, if the system was susceptible to the kind of pro-Clinton fraud that Trump is alleging, who is to say that it wasn’t also susceptible to manipulation that might have benefited Trump? He later added: “It is important to point out that with the help of millions of voters across the country, the president-elect won 306 electoral votes on Election Day, the most of any Republican since 1988”. As CBS News’ Emily Schultheis explained, if all three states’ votes prove to be in Clinton’s favor, then she would exceed the 270 electoral vote requirement with 278. He unleashed a torrent of criticism on Twitter, his favourite forum for public pronouncements, posting messages over a 12-hour period on Sunday that even questioned the legitimacy of the election that he won.
Later Trump tweeting: “In addition to winning the Electoral College in a landslide, I won the popular vote if you deduct the millions of people who voted illegally”. He alleged widespread fraud in California, Virginia, and New Hampshire. Trump becomes the first republican presidential nominee to win MI since 1988. “But I don’t doubt that the president-elect is going to win that”. Clinton only had 232.
Stein set up a fundraising page on her website last week, saying that the money raised would be put toward recount efforts in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and MI. Trump has blasted the recount campaign and called Stein’s raising money for the associated legal fees a “scam”.
Clinton’s campaign has said they will participate in the recount efforts Stein is spearheading.
