Green Party’s Stein pushes forward vote recount in U.S. state of Pennsylvania
She will have to win all three to alter the results.
If it’s any consolation for Clinton – and it’s probably mighty little – she’s winning the national popular vote.
At the same time, Green Party-backed voters sought scores of precinct-level recounts in various counties. He later tweeted that there was “serious voter fraud in Virginia, New Hampshire and California”. “Unfortunately, there was an error in adding up figures from the 72 Wisconsin county clerks of their estimated recount costs, and the actual total is $3,898,340”, the commission said in its statement.
“Reported hacks into voter and party databases and individual email accounts are causing many American [sic] to wonder if our election results are reliable”, Stein said. Stein is aiming for recounts in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and MI.
Wednesday is the recount filing deadline for MI, a state that President-elect Donald Trump won by 10,704 votes out of 4.8 million cast.
Workers in Dane County were being paid $20 an hour and will work two shifts for about 12 hours a day to get the recount done by the 8 p.m. December 12 deadline, said County Clerk Scott McDonell. “Clinton stands as the only actor that would benefit from a recount taking place in Wisconsin or elsewhere”.
Three competing theories of varying credibility offer ammunition for a recount, but no one, even proponents of each, believes a recount is likely to overturn the results of the November 8 election that saw Donald Trump win the presidency. The campaign is asking that almost 5 million ballots be recounted by hand rather than using machines. The Board of State Canvassers would then hold a hearing on a recount and issue a decision within five days.
The scientist argued that records stored in electronic voting equipment were susceptible to manipulation in an attack. 70-year-old Trump’s win in MI gave him all the 16 electoral votes and took his tally to 306 compared to Clinton’s 232. Stein also has requested recounts in Trump-won states of MI and Pennsylvania.
Stein has raised more than United States dollars 6.5 million to pay for recounts in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and MI.
“Jill Stein received 1.07 percent of the vote in MI”. That’s close to the $7 million she posted as a goal and millions more than the roughly $3.5 million she raised during her entire presidential bid. There, elections officials on Monday certified a Trump victory of 10,704 votes.
University of MI computer scientist J. Alex Halderman said in an affidavit attached to Stein’s recount request that hackers could spread malware into voting machines in battleground states and their work would be virtually undetectable.
The filing said the 100-plus people attaching their names to the petition believe the election result to be “illegal”. Clinton’s team said it will support the recount effort. How did they get through all of our checks and balances on elections? Trump called the effort a “scam” aimed at filling the Green Party’s “coffers”.
The recount itself could be costly. The state’s top elections official, Secretary of State Pedro Cortes, a Democrat, said Monday that there was no evidence of any sort of cyberattacks or irregularities in Pennsylvania’s election. Social media is said to have been integral in fundraising that has allowed Jill Stein to launch recount bids in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and MI. Feuerhelm said it’s more timely and costly to do it by hand.
