Greg Grunberg discusses the surprising struggle of shooting Star Wars
But how does Star Wars: The Force Awakens plan to top the Death Star? But, obviously, not the Death Star. Well, director and co-writer J.J. Abrams was luckily on hand to explain just that to Entertainment Weekly, teasing that while it’s basically another Death Star, it’s capabilities extend much further, and are much, much deadlier. I’d show you why a hologram of Bill Murray’s character would be a flawless fit there but, alas, Broadway Video’s copyright protection monkeys do a bang-up job removing embeddable scenes from early Saturday Night Live episodes from the Interwebs.
As we’ve reported before, most “Star Wars”-related attractions are not so much tied to the first movie from the franchise as much as they are Star Wars: The Force Awakens opening December 18″.
It has previously been revealed that the Starkiller Base was once an ice planet, converted into a stronghold by the First Order – i.e. the new bad guys. Those bad guys, they do love the oh-so-serious, imposing names.
“It is very much-and it’s acknowledged as such in the movie-apparently another Death Star”, he said.
Disney and Lucasfilm have explained how Kylo Ren’s lightsaber works in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”. For those who unaware, the First Order is the remnants of what used to be the Galactic Empire – formerly headed by Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader – so Hux will likely be a direct opponent of our heroes Rey and Finn, unless Abrams pulls off a massive plot twist. Only visual and sound effects plus scoring are missing on the film, which means that the run time is most likely already final.
Finally, we get a bit of a longer look at Kylo Ren’s lightsaber, which according to a Reddit post (via Slashfilm), is actually an ancient weapon in the Star Wars universe.
