Greg Hardy suspension reduced from 10 to 4 games
The ruling is significant, as it marks a six-game reduction from the NFL’s current domestic violence policy of 10 games, which was instituted after Hardy’s alleged incident occurred.
Dallas Cowboys defensive end Greg Hardy successfully appealed his 10-game suspension for conduct detrimental to the league, getting it reduced to four games on Friday. “Still considering further legal action”.
Last season Hardy appeared in one game for the Panthers, as he was placed on the commissioner’s exempt list for the last 15 games while his case played out in court.
The announcement comes after a seven-week wait for the Pro Bowl defensive end, who appealed the ruling in late May.
Greg Hardy won’t have to miss the majority of the Dallas Cowboys’ season anymore.
“The net effect of these acts was that Ms. Holder was severely traumatized and sustained a range of injuries, including bruises and scratches on her neck, shoulders, upper chest, back, arms and feet”, commissioner Goodell wrote in the letter.
After the Rice video emerged, the league re-evaluated how it dealt with cases of domestic violence and it could be argued that Hardy’s suspension should be retroactive to the rules present at the time of his arrest (May 2014).
The National Football League Players Association requested a neutral arbiter, just as it did a year ago when Goodell appointed Henderson to hear Adrian Peterson’s appeal. Peterson was subsequently reinstated by the league. But Hardy and his attorney appealed, asking for a jury trial in a superior court.
Prosecutors, who for months could not reach Holder, believed Holder had received an out-of-court settlement with Hardy.
