Greg Ward Jr. Injury Update: QB Cleared For Cincinnati Game
The Cougars (2-0), who have won 16 of their past 17 games, have made a very impressive start to the new season and travel to OH, full of confidence ahead of the clash with Cincinnati at Nippert Stadium. In that game, Cincinnati’s quarterback Gunner Kiel brought the Bearcats close, but the Cougars defense held on to win 33-30. 3 that kept him out of last week’s game against Lamar.
If Houston’s winning streak is going to be snapped this week, the Cincinnati Bearcats will have to figure out a way to slow down Cougars’ quarterback Greg Ward, Jr., who has been cleared to play in Thursday’s matchup. The Bearcats since had been 0-11 in such games. This is both teams first conference game of the season.
Tommy Tuberville and the Cincinnati Bearcats are off to a 2-0 start after an impressive 38-20 road win last weekend over Purdue. “No doubt I can go out there and just be who I am”, said Ward about his ability. The former John Tyler star ended up missing Saturday’s game against Lamar with an injury to his throwing shoulder. Fortunately for the Cougars, Ward returned to a full week of practice and is cleared to play.
Houston enters the game with a 2-0 record, beating Oklahoma in the season opener, and having an easy time with Lamar in a 42-0 win last week. Simply put, while Power Five schools can afford a loss if they want to reach the College Football Playoff, Houston can’t.
When these two teams met last season, Houston won the clash 33-30, but the Bearcats tallied 589 totals yards in their defeat, including 523 passing. Houston knows they have to win every game, but their focus this week is to complete the week undefeated.
