Greta Van Susteren leaves Fox News after 14 years
We can only assume this means she may take legal action against Fox News, regarding a dispute with her contract. “I want to thank all the fearless women who came forward to tell their own stories and the many people across the country who embraced and supported me”, she said. “We sincerely regret and apologize for the fact that Gretchen was not treated with the respect and dignity that she and all of our colleagues deserve”. Ailes through his attorney has denied the allegations.
The shocking announcement was made the same day that former Fox anchor Gretchen Carlson settled her sexual assault lawsuit, winning not only $20 million but a public apology from Fox’s parent company, 21st Century Fox.
Ailes was forced to resign from Fox in July after dozens of women accused him of sexual harassment. He built it into a dominant news network and a force in Republican politics. Fox News also quickly removed Van Susteren’s blog, Gretawire, from the network website.
Hume, 73, will take over her 7 p.m. show, “On The Record”, and provide analysis and news coverage through the election.
“Yes, I have left the Fox News Channel”, Van Susteren wrote in the post. Van Susteren was known to have a key man clause in her contract that allowed her to depart in the event Ailes did.
A network spokesman told USA Today that Van Susteren’s departure had nothing to do with the settlement.
Greta Van Susteren suddenly left Fox News on Monday after 14 years.
Hume stepped into hosting duties for “On The Record” for the first time on Tuesday and ended it by addressing Van Susteren’s departure. One of the few involved launching Megyn Kelly at 8 p.m.in 2013.
It was not immediately clear why Van Susteren was leaving the network. The assumption is that Sean Hannity will be the next to go and that Bill O’Reilly may decide to retire. So she chose to activate that clause.
Senior political analyst Brit Hume has been tabbed as the analyst’s replacement.
