Gretchen Carlson’s Attorneys Says Fox CEO Roger Ailes’s Claim Is False
Visitors to gretchencarlson.com will find an invitation prominently displayed on her home page to link to the document and download it. Nothing has “leaked” into the mainstream media about Tantaros’ reasons behind the sudden turn of events, so it is obvious she is keeping her cards close to her chest.
Carlson, 50, filed her lawsuit in Superior Court in New Jersey, where Ailes maintains a residence.
Citing Nielsen data, Fox News pointed out that “The Real Story With Gretchen Carlson” has delivered the lowest number of viewers in the 25-to-54 age group of any program on the channel since the first quarter of 2014, excluding its overnight shows.
There’s Gretchen Carlson on “Fox & Friends”. A former Miss America, she joined Fox News in 2005. They said that despite being moved to a tough time slot and getting insufficient support and promotion, the show’s ratings went up, and Carlson was successful. That same month, Enrichetta Ravina, an assistant professor of finance at Columbia University, filed suit against the school and a senior faculty member, Geert Bekaert, whom she claims made sexual advances.
In a Huffington Post piece from June of a year ago, Carlson says she had been “silent” about incidents of sexual harassment that happened when she was “young and afraid to speak out”, partly because she’d been anxious she might be branded a “troublemaker”. Now she alleges he’s a creep who asked for sex, then fired her when she repeatedly rebuffed his advances. The lawsuit doesn’t say.
Carlson said her contract with the morning show Fox & Friends ended in 2013 after she turned down a sexual relationship with the former political consultant, said Reuters. Some will suggest that she’s a woman who used her looks to get ahead when it suited her and, angry that she’s been fired, is using them still.
She said Ailes had previously chastised her for giving an interview to her hometown newspaper about her favorite Minnesota State Fair food.
Ailes is the founding CEO of Fox News; however, owner Rupert Murdoch’s sons, who are taking on more leadership roles in the company, do not get along with Ailes. Nevertheless, the parent company issued a statement late Wednesday. “I’ve only talked to three of them because I’ve been doing other things with regard to this case, but we’ve had clients who’ve come with similar complaints about Ailes and Fox”. Today it is learned that she is suing for money, but that amount has not been released to the public. Either Tantaros has not told another living human being about what is going on or she has some really true friends who are able to keep her secrets. Ailes, in a separate statement, was far less temperate.
The lawyers, Nancy Erika Smith and Martin Hyman, pushed back on Ailes’ statement on Wednesday evening responding to Carlson’s sexual harassment lawsuit.
In a statement to ABC News, Fox News and Ailes called Carlson’s allegations “false”.
For Ailes, the challenge will be to discredit Carlson without harming the Fox News brand. “This defamatory lawsuit is not only offensive, it is wholly without merit and will be defended vigorously”.
