Grey Cup game finally sold out
Redblacks quarterback Henry Burris won his second Most Outstanding Player award.
Banks was honoured at the CFL awards banquet Thursday night, receiving 54-of-75 first-place ballots in voting by the Football Reporters of Canada.
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have announced the 103rd Grey Cup Championship Game this Sunday at Investors Group Field in Winnipeg is officially sold out.
Blessed with a fleet of five new starting receivers, including Sinopoli, and a new offence installed by first-year co-ordinator Jason Maas, Burris became the first Ottawa quarterback to lead the CFL in passing yards (5,693) since Rough Riders legend Russ Jackson in 1969 and, at 40, the oldest QB to do so.
Calgary quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell was the other finalist. This coming Sunday, November 29th, 2015, the Ottawa Red Blacks (Rouge et Noir) and the Edmonton Eskimos (yes, another culturally insensitive team name) will meet in Winnipeg, Manitoba, for a football clash that will have Canadian football fans glued to their TV screens.
Campbell’s father, Hugh, was coach of the year in 1979 with Edmonton, making the Campbells the first father-and-son winners in CFL history.
Banks had four punt-return TDs, one shy of the league mark.
James “Wild” West won two Grey Cups as a member of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
“For us to be there, we knew, regardless of what individual accolades were up for grabs, it’s all possible because of our success as a team”, Burris said.
“I won’t say it’s not cool”, Rogers said. “I’m always going to be grateful for that”.
“I’ve been a CFL fan ever since I can remember”, Sinopoli said.
“That’s just the theme of our whole team”, he added. In accepting the award, he thanked God, his family, Redblacks management and teammates with shout-outs for every one of his fellow linemen.
“Without them I can’t run a punt or kick back”.
Calgary kicker Rene Paredes, the 2013 award victor, was the finalist.
The game starts at 6pm EST. Game time is 4 p.m. MST.
“I feel they developed me when I was on the practice roster”, he said.
“What I’ve learned in life and what I’ve learned though football is people can measure you by your height and your weight, your speed or your hand size”.
