Greyhound bus from LA to San Fran overturns; 2 killed, 9 hurt
The ensuing crash investigation is expected to involve Greyhound as well as the CHP’s Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT), which Brazil said was summoned to the area from San Luis Obispo.
Bus crash fatalities in California have been on a sharp uptick over the past few years.
The bus was carrying 19 passengers along with a driver. Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident.
Ehlers says the bus was on its side when he climbed out with his girlfriend, and he saw people lying face down in the concrete.
The bus flipped on its side while traveling north on Hwy 101 at about 70 miles per hour.
Several other victims suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene in San Jose.
The morning commute, already held up by moderate to heavy rain, was further delayed in the vicinity, as the Associated Press reports.
In addition, a boy of undetermined age was taken to a hospital as a precaution, said California Highway Patrol officer Chris Miceli.
After the bus rolled, a driver travelling south hit some of the debris, damaging the vehicle but leaving the motorist uninjured, Miceli said. A passenger said the bus was half full with 20 passengers inside.
The bus appears to have been the only vehicle involved in the crash, officials said. However, the CHP warned that lanes may not open until 8 p.m. PHOTOS: Greyhound bus overturns on Hwy 101 in San JoseAbout 45 firefighters and 10 ambulances were on the scene.
