Griffin III throws 2 TD passes; Browns fall 24-13 to Falcons
In two quarters of work Thursday, Griffin completed six of his eight passes for 96 yards with two touchdowns, and led the team with 36 rushing yards on three scrambles outside of the pocket against the Falcons’ top defense.
Fast forward to 2016, and Griffin is trying to resurrect his career in Cleveland while Pryor is learning the nuances of the wide receiver position.
The Atlanta Falcons scored 13 unanswered points going into halftime, followed by rookie J.D. McKissic’s 101 yard kickoff return to star the second half, the Falcons were up 20-3, a lead they would not relinquish the rest of the game. Once running back Duke Johnson Jr. converted a fourth-and-two with a three-yard run to Atlanta’s 29-yard line, Griffin dropped back in the shotgun formation and delivered a touchdown pass to tight end Gary Barnidge. Cleveland is also 5-1 ATS in their last 6 Thursday games and 2-8 ATS in their last 10 overall, while the under is 5-0 in their last 5 games overall. Ryan had no completions, no first downs, nothing but a spot on the sideline after a couple of series until backup Matt Schaub entered the game. PK Matt Bryant didn’t play beacuse of tightness, according to the team. DE/LB Vic Beasley (shoulder), RB Terron Ward (ankle) and S Kemal Ishmael (shoulder) were also out. S Rahim Moore was taken to the locker room to be evaluated for a concussion. He is suspended for the first four games of the regular season after missing the entire 2015 season for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy.
The Cleveland Browns are being cautious with first-round rookie wide receiver Core Coleman, who will not be playing in Thursday’s second preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons.
