GRU changing name to Augusta University
Officials said in a statement Monday that a special regents search committee and a presidential search and screening committee have been assembled to find a replacement for President Brooks Keel, who will soon lead Georgia Regents University.

The Board of Regents has announced the formation of a campus based 18 member committee to help find a new president. There is still work to be done.
Hoping to build on its budget, Georgia’s Board of Regents meets today to crunch the numbers for the upcoming year. “We are committed to the long-term success of this institution and appreciate the support of the Augusta community”, says University System of Georgia Chancellor Hank Huckaby.
The research institution’s name change to Augusta University is effective immediately.
After five years as president of Georgia Southern University, Keel resigned in early July to take the president’s post at what was then Georgia Regents University, where he started July 20. UGA asks for almost $6 million to equip the new Terry College of Business building.
