Guard D’Angelo Russell out for Lakers vs OKC, Golden State
But Walton’s line drew laughs anyway on the eve of the Lakers’ second game against the Warriors.
“I told [Young], ‘If you’re going to steal a pass, you better make the shot, ‘” Lakers coach Luke Walton added.
Nick Young made the game-winning shot in the Lakers’ 111-109 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday night, and he did so in unlikely fashion. Nick Young led all starters with 17 points, two rebounds and two blocks. His two-handed dunk off a Westbrook dish gave the Thunder a 108-107 lead with 43 seconds left, and then he monstered the offensive rebound in a crowd to add what looked to be the game-winner with those 13 seconds remaining. In the second half, Warriors reserve Ian Clark scored 17 of his 21 points to maintain the double-digit lead. New Orleans led by 20 points at the end of the first quarter and never let up. The Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder by a score of 111-109, as reported by ESPN. The Warriors will certainly be on point against the team that has dealt them one of their two losses of the season; they’ve had a day of rest and are starting to show extended flashes of the dominance we all expected from them coming into the season.
The Lakers certainly would like to see Russell on the court as they chase around Westbrook and attempt to keep him in check.
The Golden State Warriors (12-2) are having a fantastic season right now, winning eight consecutive games following a victory over the Indiana Pacers 120-83.
Six Lakers scored in double figures.
But, after 2-straight trips to the NBA Finals, one championship and the recent acquisition of Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors will be the team to beat all season long. Past year while subbing for Steve Kerr, Walton got the Warriors off to a 24-0 start and had a 39-4 mark that didn’t count in the record books.

Those concerns did not stop the Lakers from also featuring Jordan Clarkson (18 points), Timofey Mozgov (16 points), Jose Calderon (12 points) and Ingram (11 points). He will provide a veteran presence for the Lakers. Klay Thompson is the third double-digit scorer and Draymond Green is grabbing 9.1 rebounds.
The Lakers also ruled Russell out both to play in and travel for Wednesday’s game against the Golden State Warriors in Oakland.
The Warriors’ franchise-record 47 assists – on 53 baskets – are the most in the National Basketball Association this season and their most in more than 22 years. With no big names on the roster, Walton has followed Kerr’s “strength in numbers” blueprint: 10 players have appeared in at least 14 games, all of whom are averaging between 14 and 28 minutes.
