SAN DIEGO (AP) – Next summer the “Guardians of the Galaxy” are taking over theaters and Disneyland.
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige made the announcement during Marvel’s presentation at the San Diego Comic-Con today, with Disney following with a post on the official Disney Parks Blog featuring a promotional video with Imagineer Joe Rohde.
Deep inside his fortress-like collection, the mysterious Taneleer Tivan (aka The Collector) is displaying his newest acquisitions. A full-length trailer followed the scene; Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2 recently wrapped production. Unbeknownst to their unscrupulous captor, the intrepid Rocket has escaped and is enlisting the Collector’s VIP guests for help.
The new attraction will anchor a broader universe of Super Heroes that will grow over time at Disney California Adventure park. It will take over what is now the Tower of Terror at Disneyland starting next summer in conjunction with the release of the sequel.
Set to the backdrop of “Awesome Mixtape #2, ‘ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos”.
Disney won’t be changing the physical structure of the ride, but it will be adding random drop profiles as on Florida’s Tower of Terror, which will retain its Twilight Zone theme.
