Guess what PM Modi gifted to his United Kingdom counterpart Cameron?
Prime Minister Narendra Modi here on Friday presented his British counterpart David Cameron with specially handcrafted bookends made of wood, marble and silver.
“Mr Cameron should speak out for the people Mr Modi is so intent on silencing and make it clear that how a country treats its NGOs is a litmus test for their worldwide standing”, Hogarth added.
The British government listed more than 20 collaborations and deals on Thursday, including a £1.3-billion investment by mobile phone company Vodafone.
The package encompasses 3.2 billion pounds of commercial agreements, joint research programmes and initiatives to share technical, scientific, and financial and policy expertise.
Before the visit, Modi also expressed an interested in buying 20 more BAE Systems-made Hawk trainer aircraft.
In his opening remarks, British Prime Minister David Cameron referred to Modi’s vision and intent for transforming India. PM said that, “We are confidently, consistently and ceaselessly working to ingrate our economy with the world”.
During this visit, India and the United Kingdom have already announced deals worth nine billion pounds.
Before his arrival in Britain, more than 200 writers, including Salman Rushdie and Ian McEwan, signed an open letter to Cameron urging him to raise concerns about freedom of expression in India during his talks with Modi. Modi is visiting the Queen at the palace Friday on the second-day of his three-day visit to Britain.
“As for what happened in the past, there were legal proceedings, there were also representations from the British government at the time”. Both of us are backed by our countries for this parliament to work together and strengthen the partnership that we have, ” he added.
A crowd of around a hundred protesters had gathered outside Downing Street, chanting noisily and holding placards.
Messages on the banners included “Modi not welcome”, “Stop religious persecution”, and “Remove illegal blockade in Nepal”. ” A few posters even display pictures of Modi and Hitler, suggesting the Indian leader’s policies promote ethnic cleansing”.
